I have worked with the Westchase District for several years and I also live right outside the District. It was through my relationship with the Westchase District that I got to know and attended Houston West Chamber events. I decided to join in January of 2010 with a goal of just making my membership dues back through new sales. David Dettling, Dettling Funeral Directors is my ambassador; fortunately but unfortunately, I became a client of his first, but he is now a regular advertiser with Clear Channel. American Services is a new advertiser; I met Tony through a Chamber networking breakfast. On average, I come away with three to four new prospects from each networking breakfast or social; I am actively working on at least ten new accounts. I highly recommend joining the Houston West Chamber; I have not only made more than my membership dues back, I have made many new wonderful friends!

Over ten years ago, I first met Nancy Colmenares at Houston West Chamber functions. We both worked for financial institutions, so we really were competitors in some areas. However, after working on the Ambassador Committee together and attending and volunteering at numerous other Chamber events, we became very good friends.

Last year, I found that I was pretty unhappy in my job of 25 years because of various changes that had occurred. Upon learning this, Nancy referred me to another mutual friend, who recommended me for a new position. I interviewed and was hired for a terrific new job that I've enjoyed tremendously for the past 8 months! The Houston West Chamber has brought me many networking opportunities and new business in both of my jobs........but the very greatest reward to me personally has been my new position!

Apartment Advisors grew over 300% in 2009 (Our first year with the chamber) vs. 2008! Our January 2010 was even 250% bigger than 2009. We've gotten several leads through our affiliation with the Chamber.

Through Jeannie’s challenge to “get involved,” I found myself as host of the monthly Business over Breakfast meeting as it evolved from 12 participants to around 100 each month. My mandate from Jeannie was to either grow it or fold it and folding was not option #1.

From the breakfast meeting, we soon learned the concept of “netweaving” and not networking. We also learned how to give an inviting elevator speech and to get and give referrals. From the hosting seat, I gained a high level of notoriety for being a “resource” as well as a residential mortgage lender.

I extend my personal and heart warm THANK YOU to Jeannie for the “get involved” challenge and the opportunity to grow a group on behalf of the HWCOC.

Now…my challenge is to the next member to get involved and Stand Up to Stand Out as being a resource to others.
