6th Annual H-E-B Helping Heroes Program Honors Firefighters with Home-Cooked Meals
2,350 H-E-B Partners salute local heroes at 470 fire stations statewide on Friday, September 10
HOUSTON – H-E-B will honor our nation’s firefighters for their dedication and selfless service with the sixth annual company-wide volunteer program Helping Heroes on Friday, Sept. 10. More than 375 H-E-B Partners (employees) from 70 H-E-B stores in greater Houston, as well as warehouse facilities, will visit local fire stations to serve lunch to firefighters and help with around-the-station chores. As part of this program, H-E-B will adopt 128 fire stations throughout the city.
“Each year, our Partners look forward to honoring their community’s first responders and local firefighters through the Helping Heroes program. Whether we are doing around-the-station chores or cooking a hot meal, it is our goal to show appreciation for our Heroes’ dedication to the community every day,” said Cyndy Garza Roberts, public affairs director of H-E-B Houston Region.
In addition to cooking meals for the morning and afternoon shifts, H-E-B volunteers will perform service and maintenance projects such as yard work, station and fire engine cleaning, equipment cleaning and preparation work.
The Helping Heroes program allows H-E-B Partners to commemorate the heroism of civil servants throughout the state while celebrating local Heroes who risk their lives every day to protect the community. This community project also honors September 11 as a National Service Day that pays tribute to the rescue teams who risked and lost their lives at the World Trade Center.
Statewide, more than 2,350 H-E-B Partners from H-E-B stores and manufacturing and support centers will visit their local fire stations on Friday, Sept. 10.
