(HOUSTON, January 14, 2010) — Milo Hamilton, the Voice of the Astros joins Larry Dierker as he hosts his Annual “My Team” Celebrity Golf Tournament benefiting Literacy Advance of Houston. The tournament will be held on Monday, February 22, 2010 at the BlackHorse Golf Club which is located at 12205 Fry Road, Cypress, Texas 77396.
“Milo is a perfect auctioneer for this event,” said Larry Dierker. “Milo adds passion and fun whenever and wherever he represents an organization or cause. I personally appreciate his participation.” The day begins with breakfast by BlackHorse, a little practice time, and a great round of golf on the North Course at BlackHorse. Back at the clubhouse, lunch, an open bar, live and silent auctions, where Milo will lend his support, rounds out the day.
The tournament still has room for teams and individual players. “Larry always rounds up a great group of his celebrity friends, one for each team registered. The golfers love it,” says Don Baird, Literacy Advance board member.
Business Community Partners and sponsors of the event include Anheuser-Busch, BMC Software, Comcast, The Ticket ESPN 97.5 FM, Pepsi, Pinnacle Financial Strategies, Taxis Fiesta/Yellow Cab, Whataburger, and White Oak Gives Back.
When asked about Larry’s passion for Literacy Advance, Jane Holston, Executive Director stated, “Larry has donated more than 400 hours of tutoring time at Literacy Advance. Larry lives it . . . at Literacy Advance we transform lives and communities through the doorway of literacy. The media and community attention that Larry draws to our organization and its mission is invaluable.”
“If illiteracy were a disease, everyone in our community would be out there working to cure it,” Dierker said. As the education level of adults improves, so does their children’s success in school. Helping low-literate adults improve their basic skills has a direct and measurable impact on both the education and quality of life of their children.
Literacy Advance of Houston, a 501(c)(3) organization and is the oldest and largest community-based 100% volunteer-supported literacy organization in Texas. All proceeds from the tournament benefit Literacy Advance and its free classes offered to the community.
