Business Stars Announced at the Houston West Chamber of Commerce
14th Annual Economic Development Summit and Star Awards Luncheon
HOUSTON— February 10, 2012— Eleven local businesses are beaming with pride on Houston’s West side after receiving awards at the prestigious 14th Annual Economic Development Summit and Star Awards Luncheon sponsored by the Houston West Chamber of Commerce on February 10. Community and business leaders enjoyed the awards presentation and a keynote speech from Scott McClelland, President of H-E-B’s Houston Division. Melissa Wilson, co-anchor of FOX26 Morning News again emceed the event which included over 600 attendees.
“These winners are a testimony that the West Houston community has a track record of growth and vitality - a destination for work, home or play” said Andi Maceo, Cole Commercial Realty and Chair of the Houston West Chamber of Commerce Star Awards Committee.
West Houston continues to be the epicenter of economic growth for Harris County and the businesses honored here at the Star Awards luncheon gain this spotlight for the spectacular services and exemplary business performance they provide for their community”, said Jeannie Bollinger, President/CEO, Houston West Chamber. “These leaders epitomize the best in business acumen and work diligently to improve the quality of life in our West Houston community. We are very proud to recognize each and every one of them.”
Luncheon attendees were greeted by lovely jazz music of internationally acclaimed jazz pianist Gilbert Sedeno in the Lobby as they visited Expo Booths provided by sponsors including Omni Houston Westside; Media Sponsor Houston Business Journal; Methodist West Houston Hospital; Texas Children's Hospital – West Campus; Westchase District; Wolff Companies; Haynes Whaley; H-E-B; Spring Branch District; Murray Resources; Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Businesses; West Houston Medical Center; Memorial Hermann Memorial City; Texas Capital Bank; and Advancial Federal Credit Union. Catch the Moment provided complimentary photos and Spring Branch Honda displayed a brand new CRV. Office Furniture Innovations donated the services of Yvonne Washington along with copies of her latest CD. The grand prize, a 19” ASUS Office LED Monitor, was donated by Star Award Winner Atiwa Computing, Inc.
Serenading the 600 guests during lunch was the incredible vocalist Yvonne Washington. Leading the Finalists Promenade into the ballroom was ComedySportz providing a special treat to both finalists and attendees – as everyone was able to see who all the finalists were and recognize them prior to the start of the luncheon’s program.
The selection of the winner in each category was based upon overall business performance and contributions to the West Houston community during the past year. Criteria taken into consideration include number of employees added, revenue increases and support of the community through donations of time and/or money.
The Impact Award was given to David and Mary Wolff /Wolff Companies for their commitment to West Houston. The couple has been actively involved in West Houston for the past five decades. David’s firm, Wolff Companies, developed the 550 acre Park 10, among other Houston developments. David is credited with naming the “Energy Corridor”, which is Houston’s third largest employment area. Wolff Companies recently acquired the largest tract of undeveloped land in the Energy Corridor, 66 acres on I-10 near Eldridge Road.
This year’s winners in the Newly Opened or Relocated Category were D’Amico Dance and Iberia Bank (Memorial City). Named as winners in the Existing Business Category were: Atiwa Computing, Inc.; Clinical Trial Network; Haynes Whaley Associates; and Methodist West Houston Hospital. Honorable Mention in the Existing Business Category was given to Office Furniture Innovations, LLC and Amegy Bank of Texas. The Star Award for Non-Profit Organizations was awarded to Memorial Assistance Ministries and SCORE Houston. Winning the Government Entity Award is Houston Community College for working with small businesses and entrepreneurs to be successful.
