Star Awards

In 1998 the Houston West Chamber of Commerce wanted to create a true West Houston event that recognized exemplary business performances from Houston businesses over the past year, regardless if they were Members of the Chamber or not. At that time, the Houston West Chamber along with Houston Community College, the Westchase District and the West Houston Association started working ont he idea and created this prestigious series of awards now known as the Economic Development Summit & Star Awards.
Competition
Each year more than 140 companies are nominated. In order to compete for the prestegious Star Award companies must complete an application which takes genuine effort and a time commitment. Then, a panel of independent judges is formed, they fill out confidentiality agreements, then get to work analyzing the applications. Judges include CPAs, business owners, scholars, economists, publishers, and more. They are not necessarily Chamber Members. The panel uses a scorecard containing three main components:
1. Revenue and employee growth (60% of total score)
2. Community involvement by applicant and employees (25% of total score)
3. Industry recognition and customer testimonials (15% of total score)

Finalists are grouped by size of company (number of employees) and how long they have been in business. Categories include, Newly Opened (less than one year existence), Existing (more than one year existence), Non-Profit/Governmental, and Young Entrepreneur of the Year (under 40 years of age).
Pillar Award
The most prestigous of all the Star Awards is named the Pillar Award. The Pillar Award is awarded to a business or entity that excels and epitomizes their work through performance, initiative, and leadership and has achieved remarkable results in the West Houston community. Some past winners include: the Westchase District, Houston Community College, MetroNational for their redevelopment of Memorial City Mall, and TXDOT for their exemplary road construction projects in West Houston.
Event Sponsorships
Sponsorships are also available from $1,000 - $2,500. The sponsorship form is the PDF file that appears below. Deadline to be included in press releases, calendar alerts, advertising, PowerPoint, program and signage is no later than February 1st , 2011. However, our early bird sponsors will be included in our early alerts to the media - so don't delay.

The 2011 Economic Development and Star Awards Luncheon will be held Friday, February 18th at the Omni Houston Hotel - Westside.
Anyone may nominate any business who has made an economic impact on the West Houston community - they DO NOT have to be Chamber members to be nominated nor to receive a Star Award..
